Frequently Asked Questions

  • What can we expect on our visit?

Expect a warm greeting from our amazing team who are ready to help you have a wonderful time! We have indoor and outdoor seating depending on your preference. We offer an array of seasonal cocktails, classic cocktails, and non-alcoholic options. Currently our cocktails are crafted with our vodka or gin. You are welcome to sample our spirits on your first visit to us.

During the busy summer months and holiday weekends, you may experience longer wait times for your drinks as we hand pour and measure all of our ingredients to bring you a perfect and consistently delicious craft cocktail. We politely ask for patience during high volume visit days, particularly Saturdays.

  • Where did you get the name Township 23?

After much indecision on names, we started reading an old 1880s county book for inspiration. The areas of Nelson and landmarks on the current farm kept mentioning their location Township 23 on the tax parcel, which back then was commonplace without well defined maps. After hearing Township 23 numerous times throughout the article, we realized its significance and matched our vision.

  • What grain or raw material do you use for your Vodka?

It consists of 85% corn, 15% ancient or heirloom wheat.

  • Where do you source your grains from?

The fields right next to the distillery! To be more exact, Village Edge Farms right in Nelson, WI. We are a farm distillery, which means that we’re using crops directly from our own family farm to support the farm in another way, keeping it sustainable for many years to come.

  • Is Village Edge Vodka gluten free?

We have an ancient wheat variety in our vodka grain bill, but a very small percentage (15%). However, it is our understanding that the distillation process of high proof alcohol (specifically vodka) removes gluten--generally all spirits are gluten free unless added back in. We point to this article from the Celiac Disease Foundation: https://celiac.org/gluten-free-living/what-is-gluten/sources-of-gluten/

Please note, we are not tested or certified as gluten free by the FDA.

  • Do you plan to expand into other spirits?

Absolutely! We’re passionate about dark spirits too, specifically bourbon and rye whiskey. We barreled our first batches in late 2023, but you will not see those released for a few years to allow for proper aging.

  • What’s the difference between a distillery and a brewery?

Distilleries create spirits/liquor, where breweries create beer.

  • Do You Offer Tours?

Tours are available by request only, and will be based on the distiller availability and production schedule. Tours are roughly 30-45 minutes, and drinks are welcomed. Feel free to ask our staff or call ahead to request a tour time.

  • Do I need a reservation?

No, but we do ask you to notify us in advance if your group is 10 or more people.

We see many large groups such as bachelor & bachelorette parties, and bus tours so we appreciate a heads up if you plan to add us to your adventure.

  • Do you serve food?

We don’t have a kitchen of our own but we do welcome food trucks on site. We will share on our social media sites when a food truck is scheduled. You may bring in your own food/snacks and we do have some small munchies available for purchase.

  • Do you serve beer or wine?

As of July 2024, we now serve beer. We try to keep it local, and will rotate on a quarterly basis. No wine at this time. Please remember, in accordance with State and Federal laws, there are no carry in beer, liquor, wine or other alcoholic beverages allowed on Township 23 Distillery premises.

  • Do you offer live music?

Yes, we welcome live music & comedy on our patio and indoors. Please see our “Live Music” tab for a current music lineup. Feel free to contact us if you are a musician or comedian interested in getting on our schedule.

  • Are you pet friendly?

Yes, only on our patio. We request they remain leashed and that you clean up after your animal.

  • Do you have a smoking area?

Yes, please find the sign on the northwest end of the property near the county road. Smoking must take place at least 25 feet from the building, as we are a high proof alcohol producing facility.
